Challenge Day #5

I found this wonderful quote that I thought summed up everything I have to say about today's challenge topic, my friends.

"Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our spirit has trouble remembering how to fly."

I love all of my dear friends more than I can ever possibly express :)

Challenge Day #4

Today's assignment is to tell you about my parents. They are without a doubt the silliest folks I know. This July will be their 39th wedding anniversary. For all their nonsense, they really do have a wonderful marriage with a lot of love. I am very fortunate to grow up around that. That is one reason why I am still single. If I can't have a long happy marriage like them, then I am not really interested. Since I am the only child, they both are very dependant on me. I tell my mom all the time that I wonder how anything got done before I became an adult and took care of everything. I don't need any children, I have two senior citizen toddlers to contend with, lol. There newest thing is to fight over the Nintendo DS I bought them for Christmas. Nothing gets my dad in trouble quicker than forgetting to plug it in to charge before he goes to bed, LOL LOL. They drive me crazy and I fuss a lot but I love them both more than words can ever express. I have been blessed beyond measure to have these wonderful people raise me.

These are a Few of My Favorite Things

Hey folks, can you believe I have stuck with this for 3 days now. That must be some sort of record, lol. So today it is all about my favorite things. It is hard to narrow things down. So I guess I will hit the highlights.

Owls - I am not really sure when it started but I have fallen deeply in love with all things owl. They are just so cute with their expressive little faces. I have started quite a nice collection of owl goodies. Right now they are really popular so it is easy to find stuff. I can't wait until I get to go to the Harry Potter theme park where they have a whole store of owl things. Someone will have to sit on me to keep me from spending a million dollars in there, lol.

Harry Potter - Speaking of owls, I have to give a shout out to my favorite books and movies of all time. I don't think I can trust someone who doesn't love JK Rowling and the marvelous world she created. I have read all the books several times and I know all the movies by heart. I never ever get tired of it. I am so excited about the last movie coming out in July. It will be sad th0ugh, I will have to have some tissues with me because I feel sure I will cry at the end. I hold out eternal hope that Ms. Rowling will eventually give in and write some more about the Harry Potter world.

Crafts - I am a crafty girl. I come by it honest, my mom has always been the most creative person I know. I have worked hard and built a great creative space with all the toys and such that you could want. I love jewelry making and I have turned it into quite a little business. I have always loved stickers and pretty pieces of paper so that made the scrapbooking a no brainer. It is also a wonderful way to record the history of your life (yes I know I am corny). My newest love is painting. I bought some great stuff today to work on some collage style paintings I have in my head. I will have to post some pictures when I get them done. I really do wish I knew how to sew, but I am totally disfunctional with a needle. I have been banned from my mom's sewing machine since I was little. Maybe one day I can find a good class to help my dysfunction.

Twilight Fan Fiction - I don't really know where this love came from, but it is an obsession for me. I follow dozens of stories and the writers are amazing. Most of the are better than Stephanie Meyer. Most of them just take the character names and a few character traits and then build their own stories around that. The most frustrating part is that if you find a story at the beginning, you have to wait for them to be updated one chapter at a time. Some writers are really good and update once or twice or week. Some will leave you hanging for a month. I have been know to squeel outloud when one of my favorites is updated. I just wish someone else would read them to so I had someone to discuss them with. It is really good stuff people !!!!

I could go on for days about favorite colors (purple and red), Paris stuff, good ink pens, new books and all the other things that make me smile. I will leave it here for now. Sorry I only included one picture, my computer is acting foolish. It is time I break down and get a new one. This one is overloaded with all the graphics I use for my jewelry and the gazillion pictures I have saved on it. Looks like Staples will get my tax refund this year, lol. See you guys later :)

What's In a Name

So my assignment today is to explain the name of my blog. Well, simply put, it is the name of my business Purple Treasures. I guess the story is from where that name came from. When I first created my ebay account like 10 years ago, I couldn't come up with a user name that wasn't already taken. To help, the website asked several questions to help come up with one, things like your favorite color, favorite things...those sorts of things. So ebay created the name purple treasures for me as my new user name. Well at the time I drove a bright purple Neon that everyone loved to comment on. So when the girls at work found out about my ebay name, they cracked up. It so fit because of the car. Then they saw a picture of my senior prom dress, which happened to be the same shade of purple, and well the nickname just stuck. When it came to naming my little business, I figured why not use that since so many people already associated it with me. It may not make a lot of sense to some folks, but it is sorta special to me.

On a serious note, please pray for my family right now. My uncle has been suffering with dementia for awhile now and he has had 2 strokes since New Years. We were back in the emergency room with him again tonight. My poor aunt is just at the end of her rope. At this point there is not much that can be done. My prayer is that he is not suffering or in any pain. His doctor told us tonight that he feels the end will come soon. He and my aunt have been married 58 years. I know she will be lost without him.

I hope to hear from some of my other bloggy friends. Until tomorrow...

Remember Me ????

Long time no see right, can you believe it?? I have been so woefully neglectful of my blog the last few months. It was crazy around the end of the year. Purple Treasures has just taken off like wildfire in the last 6 months or so. I am sending my helper to the post office with 15 or 20 packages or more a week. During late November and December, he was going 3 times a week. I am so thankful for all the success. It doesn't leave a lot of time for blogging and other such things though. I follow a dozen or so blogs daily but do such a poor job myself. So one of my goals for the new year (I refuse to call them resolutions) is to be a better blogger. My dear friend Jaime found a 30 blog challenge that I loved so I am going to use it to get back in the swing of things. So here we go with day #1 Introduce myself and give 15 random facts about me. I will not be including a picture because I HATE all pictures of myself. I would just rather talk, lol. My name is Christy Allison Harp and I was born February 10, 1974 in Decatur, Alabama. My parents names are Bobby and Jean and I am an only child. I have worked as the insurance clerk/office manager for Dr Laron Hardy for a little over 5 years. I also have my ever growing and expanding business, Purple Treasures on the side. Here are some random, sometimes odd, things about little old me.

1. I hate being an only child, I think it has made me a little crazy. The responsibility you take on
as your parents get older is very stressful too when you are the only one.

2. I believe in ghosts

3. I hate hot liquids in any form. No coffee, tea or soups for me. YUCK !!

4. I have never owned or ridden a bicycle.

5. I drink way too much Diet Dr Pepper for one person

6. I currently subscribe to around 20 magazines. It is an addiction I have had for years, lol.

7. I was dysfunctionally cripplingly shy and withdrawn until I was about 19 years old. I was
afraid of everyone and everything and worried myself sick. It was pretty miserable.

8. If I went back to college today, I would have a double major of Graphic Design and History

9. I could eat pizza everyday and be happy

10. I would gladly spend my lunch money on a book

11. I have never been to a concert, unless you count band, which I don't, lol

12. I really hope to write someday. I have characters in my head that have been there for years
and years. I would love to tell their stories.

13. I am too honest and tend to say the first thing that pops in my head. It is my worst fault I
think.

14. I am fiercely loyal and protective of the people that I love

15. I am obsessed with British history, especially the royal families.

So I think that is it for day one. Let's hope I can keep this up. I challenge everyone else to take part too. I would love to read everyone else's

Reading Rainbow :)

I know right, I go for what months with no posts and now 2 within days of each other. Blame it on the new meds I guess, lol. Anywho, I thought that since all I do really is work and read that I would share some of my most recent samplings.

Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella - LOVE LOVE LOVE this book. I didn't think she could write anything better than the Shopaholic books but I think this one might top it. It is a very touching and funny story, you know the kind where you are laughing through your tears sort of thing. It is not like some I have read that are horrible gut wrenching, slit your wrist sad or anything. It is definitely a good summer read

A Reliable Wife by Robert Goolrick - I stumbled on this book by accident and couldn't put it down. It is so deliciously dark and brooding and gothic. It starts out as what appears to be a typical mail order bride, turn of the century story that quickly gets turned on its head. About halfway through, you will stop and say, NO WAY, that did not just happen. Be warned, these are not happy shiny people. The story will draw you in totally though. I think I read this one is like 3 days. Really good stuff !!

Savannah Breeze and Savannah Blues by Mary Kaye Andrews - Here is another lady that has never written anything I didn't love. She is just laugh out loud funny. The characters in these books are the same ones that were in Blue Christmas. Love me some Bebe and Wheezie. I think I am so Wheezie with her junking habit. I would so have a shop like hers if I could. I hope that Mrs. Andrews writes more about these fun folks. The Loudermilks are just the funniest old folks EVER, lol.

the Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon - Dear lord Shann, I could kill you for getting me so obsessed with a 7 book series where each book is like 850 pages, LOL LOL. I may never get out of Scotland. Of course, if I get to stay with Jamie Fraser, it would be so worth it. I am totally in mad love with these books. Despite the fact that some may disagree with me, I find Jamie to be ALMOST as swoon worthy as some vampires. (Please note Amelia I did say almost ) I am about to die to go to Scotland and find me some stones to fall through, lol. I just finished the 2nd book and I am about 150 pages into the third one. It is really good so far. I feel like I will be fluent in Gaelic by the time I am done. For a hopelessly romantic history nut like myself, you don't get much better than this.

Somewhere in the middle of all this I still find time for all my trashy fan fiction (an abnormally large amount) plus the 40 some odd magazines I think I can't live without, lol. I have also started rereading Eclipse before the movie comes out (3 weeks from today !!!!) and I would like to read that new Bree Tanner book before then too. Guess I better get started. Chow for now :)

Random Musings on the MTV Awards

I know, I figure people thought I had forgotten how to blog. I really don't have a good excuse other than not enough time or laziness, both are pretty accurate. I watched most of the MTV awards last night and had several tidbits on my mind, so I thought I would share.

- I don't understand the appeal of those Jersey Shores people AT ALL !! The whole pre awards show was nothing but a big commercial for their new season. I am so sorry, but anyone who finds those horribly tanned icky boys attractive needs to have their heads examined. And don't even get me started on the girls.....definitely not a show I will be watching....it might melt my brain

- I can't help but feel old anytime I watch one of the awards show on here now. They always have people that I have never heard of. I consider myself a fairly well read person and I follow more gossip than is healthy...but there are still folks I have never heard of. Of course when you listen to most of them talk or sing...then you know why some people have no idea who they are.

- What the crap does Katy Perry see in Russell Brand....sorry....just don't get it

- I am so tired of everyone being so mean to Kristen Stewart. Yes, I know she is an odd little bird but I can't help it, I like her. My lord, she is only 20, she is just a baby. I can only imagine how scary it must be that every time you step outside you have crazy people calling your name and flashing cameras in your face. Yes, I know she is getting paid well for it, but that doesn't make it any easier to handle. I just wish people would stop being mean and just understand she is a shy awkward girl still trying to figure out her stuff.

_ My love for Robert Pattison remains...love the shorter hair..I can't wait to see his new movie with Reese Witherspoon, Water for Elephants. It is the next book on my to read list.

- Is is really essential that every other word be an f bomb. I mean I in no way claim that my language is perfect, far far from it. Also, an occasionally well placed f bomb can be humorous in certain situations. But last night was WAY over the top. I don't know that I have ever heard so many bleeps in one tv show. Seriously people...expand your vocabulary a little.

- Has anyone ever seen a better group of nominees than that for best male performance. Robert Pattison, Taylor Lautner, Channing Tatum, Zac Efron, and Daniel Radcliffe.......that list is a cougar's dream, LOL LOL

Ok, so that is rant for the day. I just had to get all that out. Now I can move on with my day. I really hope to start blogging more regularly, but I know myself better than to make any promises :)
